Hello! Wow, March already! How quickly are the months going (but the evenings are gradually getting lighter – yay!).

The year just seems to be getting busier and busier and I started off the month at the HAC for the hugely popular Venue Reservations Showcase. There were over 300 event buyers in attendance which was certainly of great benefit to all the exhibitors. It was lovely to end the evening with a get together for a bite to eat and a drink with those involved and to thank them for their time.

Mid February, Sam Walker, executive head chef for Seasoned Events, and his team provided us with a fantastic signature meal as we held a tasting session for ‘A Taste of Seasoned Events’, from our new spring and summer collection. Our guests were truly wowed with the treats we showcased – this was also topped off by presents and a cake for one of our guests who was celebrating a very special birthday! We were almost rolling out the door after Sam pulled out his home-made honeycomb which we all devoured with great enthusiasm.

I’ve also recently headed over to Tower Bridge for an exciting Seasoned Events photo shoot – more will be revealed about this in my next blog!

On a personal note, I’m glad to say that the gym has seen me twice in February! Admittedly that’s not great but at least it’s better than nothing. I just need to keep the momentum going but endless visits from family members, eating out, and a few glasses of vino, tend to take precedence over pounding on the cross-trainer.

I’m also delighted that, even though my husband and I don’t usually go crazy for Valentine’s day, he did remember and I got a card and some flowers which was nice. It did make me laugh when I picked up dinner from M&S that evening to see the queue of men (never seen before) scurrying to the tills with chocolates/fizz/flowers! Very amusing.

Anyway, enjoy Pancake Day (8^th March) – I learnt to flambé them in Cuba with orange juice, brown sugar and rum, plus a few slices of banana – delicious!

RCJ – Sustainable Development Programme

The Royal Courts of Justice plays host to hundreds of events and thousands of people over the year. Consequently waste is generated from people, packaging and deliveries. The RCJ is aware of the impact these events has on the environment and as a venue we take this very seriously.

The aim of our sustainable development programme is to ensure a better quality of life for everyone, for now and for the future.

The RCJhas four key priorities in aiming to achieve higher living standards whilst protecting and, where possible, enhancing the environment.

01 Social progress which recognises the needs of everyone.

02 Effective protection of the environment.

03 Prudent uses of resources.

04 Maintenance of high and stable levels of economic growth and employment.

The Royal Courts of Justice is committed to Sustainable Development and expects all accredited event suppliers to have a similar philosophy and comply with the strategies and policies of the venue relating to sustainable development as well as complying with all Environmental and Sustainable Development regulations. All of the accredited suppliers that work at the RCJ are required to promote and implement the following strategies:

General
To ensure that it’s activities, practices, equipment, consumables and cleaning materials are, wherever possible, environmentally friendly and comply with the Department’s policy statement(s). Waste Management To assist with minimising the amount of waste currently produced, and to achieve further targets as agreed with the Authority.

Energy
To ensure that the provision of services is carried out in a manner that is energy efficient, and which minimises any harmful or otherwise detrimental impact on the environment. The services shall be performed in such a way as to ensure that power consumption is as efficient as possible commensurate with safe and practical working. As a minimum lighting must not be left switched on in rooms that are unoccupied or corridors after the work is completed save if such lighting is required to be left on for security.

Water
To ensure that water is not wasted and shall ensure that taps are turned off after use.

Consumables
Take all possible precautions to ensure that any materials used in connection with the provision of services do not contain chloroflurocarbons (CFC’s), halons and any other damaging substances, unless unavoidable, which in this case the venue will be notified accordingly.

Purchasing
To encourage the use of recycled products, so long as they are not detrimental to the environment, to include the manufacture of all packaging, which must be capable of recovery for reuse or recycling.

Environmental Management Systems
To assist where appropriate with the implementation of Environmental Management Systems as instructed by the venue and to ensure that all staff comply with the venue’s environmental strategy, policy and documents.

Wine Tasting Events at the RCJ

Judge & Jury

Event Outline:
Arriving at 7pm, guests are led to the Painted Room, originally used as a robing room for the judges, and welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine. Guests are then taken on a historical tour and led inside one of the magnificent Court rooms of this breathtaking Grade I listed building.
On returning to the Painted Room guests will learn the art of wine tasting and will be able to determine key features such as the colour, nose and palate of wines.
The Judge & Jury wine challenge will then commence as our panel of judges invite guests to sample a range of wines from around the world. Each guests will be given a wine to taste whilst the panel of judges present 3 different opinions and descriptions of the wines. However only one judge is right, so guests will have to make an educated guess as to the correct description. There will be 8 different wines to appreciate and identify with some fabulous prizes to be won.

The event will finish at approximately 9.30pm.

The Royal Courts of Justice have chosen Seasoned Events to be their exclusive event business managers. Seasoned Events will have responsibility for the management of events on the site itself and for accredited suppliers, as well as producing all sales and marketing materials to build upon their established client base.
